Finally a update

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

I know i havent update for ages. I am feeling unbloggish and didn’t bothered updating. Anyway, I am feeling excited because I will be heading down to siggraph this coming Friday. It is my first time attending Siggraph and I am really feeling good about it. I have prepare a small draft version of a reel and hopefully it will catch some recruiter’s eye. I don’t expect employment but I hope my presence is recorded down in some company’s database and some recruiter will remember me a few months down the road when I actually send my finished demo reel. Whatever the case, I hope Siggraph will be fun!!

Phototaking at Stanley Park

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Today has been an amazing day. Me, Xavier, Rohit and Vinay went to Stanley Park to take photographs. I considered ourselves super lucky because the weather forecast says that this few days will be rainy days. But, to our delight, it didn’t rain at all. It was cloudy at times but the ominous clouds actually add to the mood and beauty of the sky. The whole trip was really really tiring and we sort of wander around, not really knowing where we are going. We sort of got lost twice and end up at some place we had been before. We intended to go Beaver Lake but in the end we got so lost that we couldn’t find it :p By 3pm we were so tired that we decided to head home. All in all, it was a wonderful day and a good escape from school, computers and indoor fluorescent lighting. Below are some samples of photos I took today. You can see the rest in my photography section.

After so long, I finally uploaded my photos from my Yunnan Trip last year. The trip is really good. The views and scenery in China is astonishing and breathtaking. The grandeur of the mountain and the sweeping plains is really something to behold. On the other hand, I witness the really poor region of china where people still engage in agricultural economy. The children there do not have proper education and spend their life in the fields. Even for those that do go to school, they probably have to walk a few hours a day to get to the nearest school. It is a interesting experience I had in that trip. Anyway, as usual, I ramble too much. Enjoy the photos :)

A Shannara Movie !!

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

I just heard from my brother that there will be a Shannara movie in the making. It got me quite excited. I like Terry Brook’s Shannara series and has always hoped for his books to be make into movies. Finally, the filmmaker has seen the potential in his story and make my dream come true. For all those non-fantasy book reader, Shannara is a on-going series of books written by Terry Brooks based in a fantasy world setting called Shannara. There has been many stories based in the world, spanning many generations of characters. This world is sort of a post-apocalyptic world where Man’s dabbling in Science has brought about a world catastrophe that wiped out most traces of science. Man are left with virtually no technological advancement. However at the same time, magic, which has faded off when Man began to be more scientific-going, started to surface again. This is a short summary of the setting of these books. Well the book being made into the movie is Brook’s second book, Elfstone of Shannara, which is one of my favourite book. Anyway, here is the link to an interview with the scriptwriter.

Anime Recommendation - Last Exile

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

last_exile.jpg I just finish watching the Last Exile anime and i highly recommend it to every anime lover. The setting for this anime is a blend between industrial age and futuristic space age. The story begin with two orphans Claus and Ravey who are vanship pilot. Vanship is a steam age type looking airplane which actually run on some claudia liquid. How it works isnt explained in the story but i guess it is some sort of fuel. The story develops when they are involved in a war between Anatoure and Deusis. The plot evolved to many layer of complexity and is highly intriguing. I will not give out any spoilers here. The style of the anime is really interesting and there is a refreshing blend between the low tech and high tech. The designs of the characters by Range Murata are gorgeous. Another good point of the anime is its soundtrack. The ost is aptly scored, and its sometimes electronic style and sometimes irish style really add to the feeling of the anime. There are some point where i feel the music is not really suitable but i would say the OST is really good. The ending is kind of vague and scenes and images just pass to fast for me to take it in. Only after i visited some site and rewatched the last episode then I can understand the story. I would ask everyone to slowly watch through the last 10 mins to fully appreciate the show.
